Placemate is helping solve the housing crisis in vacation towns by unlocking new housing opportunities for local employees.
Through our platform, we connect local tenants with homeowners who have underutilized properties available for rent, and partner with local governments to incentivize property owners to convert their units into seasonal and long-term rentals for locals.
The idea for Placemate started shortly after we moved to Truckee, CA in Fall 2018 to start a family in the mountains. We had assumed it would be easy to find a long-term rental. Boy, were we wrong!
We soon found that we weren’t alone in the struggle to secure a home. We also discovered that the majority of the housing stock in the area is vacation properties that sit empty much of the year, or are rented as short-term rentals. That was when the lightbulb went off and the idea for Placemate was born. Through an innovative approach and trusted online platform, we connect vacation-home owners and renters with the goal of finding all people stable housing in resort towns — whether that’s seasonal or long-term.
